Knowledge is power. The more you know about your body, the better you can take care of it. Everyone has a pelvic floor, but many do not know how to take care of it or why they should! The pelvic floor is a group of small, but mighty muscles that make up our core, shape our pelvis and help to support us as we move throughout the world. Many women have problems with their pelvic floor and core because of the strain of childbirth, repetitive movements, stress, menopause or non-optimal daily habits such as squatting to urinate. The good news is that these problems are not inevitable. Through the help of a Women's Health Physical Therapist, you can exercise without leaking, have intercourse without pain, and more. Teaching your core and pelvic floor to work better as a team can also resolve back pain, hip, knee, shoulder and ankle/foot pain. Even if you do not think you are having trouble with your core and pelvic floor, it is good to know how these muscles should be working together to prevent problems from occurring. Dr. Venzin will discuss issues you may be experiencing with the core and pelvic floor area, prevention methods and ways to impove funcioning there. Emily will then lead you through a series of yoga poses aimed at strengthening and stabilizing the pelvic floor and core.
